MARIGOT—A 24-year-old man has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. Manoël Maragnes, originally from Guadeloupe, had arrived on St. Maarten on December 11 on a flight from New York.
Maragnes was in the process of completing a Business Administration degree in Paris, for which he had done a project in St. Maarten. He is due to graduate in January. He was on his way to spend Christmas and New Years Eve with relatives in Guadeloupe. En route from Paris to Guadeloupe, he first stopped off for a few days in New York, where he saw friends. He then continued to St. Maarten on December 10th; where he planned to do some field studies as part of his project, and on Saturday, December 14, he was due to fly from Grand Case to Guadeloupe. His family was present at the airport to meet him, but the student never made it on the flight.
Maragnes had been staying in Beach Plaza Hotel in Marigot. He never checked out. On Saturday, all his belongings, including his passport, were found inside the hotel room. A rental car driven by Maragnes was found abandoned in the Lowlands area, with slight damage to one side of the vehicle.
The Gendarmerie is taking his disappearance seriously and has started an investigation, with the Sint Maarten Police is also aware and available to assist where required.
Family members have travelled from Guadeloupe and are helping in the search for their relative. They have been spreading posters with a photograph of the missing man, with the text: “Manoël, if you read this message, contact your mother and father. We love you lots.”
A relative stated that the family members are touched by the sympathy they have received, and said that the support is very comforting, especially for Maragnes’ parents. “Wherever we go, people are moved by the story and are willing to help us. We would like to thank them for that” said Maragnes’ mother Marie-Line.
Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Lowlands area in the night from Friday to Saturday relating to the incident, or anyone who has spoken to Manoël or has any idea of his whereabouts is requested to call the police station on either side of the island.

PLEASE REPOST and help , spread the word, and find him .   MANOEL MARAGNES
